Danceable Ghost Light Theater Prop

We were asked by a choreographer to produce a ghost light for use in a show. It needed to be both operable and danceable.

For background, a ghost light is an electric light that is left energized on the stage of a theater when the theater is unoccupied and would otherwise be completely dark. Its primary purpose is safety, but the superstitions that surround them make for all sorts of theater fodder.

The nearly finished light, complete with heavy base, wheels, and a way to store its heavy-duty cord.

The weighted base was build from a discarded truck wheel assembly. The transition to the upright was padded out with a decorative pipe stack.

A side hook for cord storage was welded to the upright to provide an extra handle for rugged choreography.
